Pourquoi donc, la façon d’assurer une rythmique à l’orgue Hammond n’évoluerait-elle pas comme elle a évolué dans les orchestres de jazz, surtout dans cette musique grandement improvisée donc plus libre ?

Et puis une autre chose que je voudrais dire, c’est qu’en tous styles de musique comme partout il y a le “fond et la forme”. Le fond c’est la “Musique” elle-même, la forme c’est tout le reste y compris l’instrument qui l’interpréte . Par exemple la musique de Bach est tellement riche et travaillée que peut importe à quel instrument elle est jouée, c’est le discours musical que l’on écoute ! En ce sens Eddy Louiss, bien que ne jouant pas de pédalier, restera toujours pour moi le “Maître” !

Je suis professeur d’orgue classique et jazz, aussi, quant à cette double culture, je tiens à dire combien ces deux styles s’enrichissent mutuellement ! Alors de grâce finie la gue-guerre des jazz-men “qui ne savent pas lire la musique” (sic beaucoup de musiciens classiques) contre les classiques “qui ne savent pas improviser” (sic les musiciens de jazz) !

Cela étant dit, il y a des sonorités, ou des instruments qu’on apprécie plus ou moins. Par exemple, j’ai beaucoup de mal à apprécier Chopin joué sur un piano forté. Le string bass Trek, à mon sens, n’a pas une belle sonorité, et cela ne fait plus partie de l’orgue mais est plus un ersatz de contrebasse en complément de l’orgue. Même avec B. Dennerlein qui utilise une basse échantillonnée, son jeu de basse se positionne à coté de l’orgue et ne fait plus partie de l’orgue. Certes, c’est spéctaculaire, et elle est une grande virtuose, comme Rhoda et comme l’était le regretté Lou, mais où est l’orgue dans cette basse ?

Dés que j’ai eu mon orgue (il y a plus 29 ans) j’ai très vite senti la nécessité d’ avoir un son de guitare basse au pédalier, ce qui me permettrais d’adapter ma technique d’orgue classique au jazz. J’ai donc cablé mon pédalier afin de lui permettre de piloter un synthé (Roland SH 101) réglé pour imiter une guitare basse fretless. Avec le “portamento” automatique, lorsque je joue lié le son “glisse” d’une note à l’autre, lorsque je joue détaché j’ai directement la bonne hauteur des notes (voir la vidéo de “Lover man”). Bien entendu un tel système sort sur un ampli séparé et non sur les cabines Leslie, afin de ne pas avoir le “trémolo” sur la basse. L’usage de mes 2 pieds me permets de jouer très vite (y compris certains thèmes de Charly Parker !) tout en conservant les harmonies à la main gauche (en y remplaçant les fondamentales par des 9°), et de faire “chanter” souvent ma basse dans l’aigüe du pédalier.

-La basse à la main gauche omniprésente dans le style Boogie: croche pointée-double avec une note brisée (comme la pâte) qui vient d’en haut ou d’en bas) est une façon de jouer qui peut lasser et qui personnellement ne me plaît pas des masses (je pèse mes mots). D’abord, il y a un manque harmonique dans le médium et puis on a toujours l’impression qu’avec un bon son de basse au synthé, ce serait mieux Aborder l’orgue Hammond avec un demi clavier pour chaque main me paraît un peu réducteur mais malheureusement, le marché va dans ce sens: le nouveau SK1 est encore plus light: c’est la tendance mais c’est l’antithèse de l’orgue
