Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends. Born in Danville, VA, the second of six children, to the late Eldridge and Jean Hines Vernon, who survives, she graduated from Bartlett Yancey High School in Yanceyville and lived most of her life in Milton, NC. Along with her husband and daughters, she spent thirty pleasurable years growing and caring for flowers at Countryside Greenhouses. She shared this joy with all of her friends and neighbors in the surrounding area.
Ellen was preceded in death by her sister and her father: Claudia Vernon Smith and Eldridge Vernon. She enjoyed playing piano and singing in the choir at New Hope United Methodist Church, breakfast at The Drug Store with the Coffee Club, and traveling.
We would like to thank the many members of the community who have provided prayers, love, and support to Ellen and her family. It is greatly appreciated.
